there are plenty of legitimate takedown requests that come from governments when a video or other Google-hosted item is in fact illegal, so down they must come, whether they like it or not. It’s a fine line to walk, and Google has hoped to make their position clear with their Transparency Report. The report corresponding to the first half of 2011 has an interesting little extra tidbit: “We received a request from a local law enforcement agency to remove YouTube videos of police brutality, which we did not remove.”

Why so specific? The statement continues, saying that other videos of police were requested to be taken down for defamation reasons, and were also not removed. I think that in this time of turmoil, Google is saying very quietly what it wouldn’t really be tactful to say loudly: “Put your sensitive and controversial video data here.” Certainly a site like LiveLeak is also an option, but YouTube finds itself the center of attention more frequently, and being more of a popular culture community, it wants to emphasize its legitimacy in matters like this. The transparency report is a way for them to encourage users to trust them, and perhaps, governments to respect them.

The official or district that requested the brutality video be taken down is not specified (and at the level of disclosure Google seems to prefer, I doubt it ever will be), but it’s worth noting that it’s a “local” law enforcement agency. That is to say, Google did not receive a letter from a federal judge and decide to contest it. Hopefully this little display of gusto won’t be overpowered if the stakes get raised and that does happen. In the meantime, as I wrote, our responsibilities as documentarians of everything around us are increasing, and knowing YouTube is an asset we can trust is a good thing.

On a related note, the trends of takedowns aren’t really notable this year; though The Guardian points out that there was a 70% increase in takedown requests versus the previous six-month period (92 vs. 54), they neglect to note that the six-month period before that (i.e. January-June 2010) had a whopping 128. Google has started classifying takedown requests by reason, however (defamation, privacy, hate speech, etc), which will be an interesting set of data to track.

US Government requests for user data jumped, however: 5950 versus 4287 during the same period in 2010, asking for information on 11,057 users. 93% of these were complied with, “fully or partially.” So while they’re making something of a stand on removing data, they don’t seem to have any trouble giving it out.

Let's Be Honest

The Bible has become the most influential book in human history yet barely anyone, not even those who base their lives around it, treat its claims with full honesty. That's because they don't treat the Bible's claims with the same amount of skeptical criticism as they would with any other set of extraodinary claims. If a person claims they were abducted by aliens and spent a month living in an UFO almost everyone would approach the claims critically. But if a person claims there was a man who walked on water, died for our sins, and flew up into the sky almost no one would question such claims for a second.

It is time we treat Christianity with equal honesty.
Be honest
Never stop learning. To be honest about a set of claims one first must be knowledgeable about the claims. Church groups only provide a filtered selection of knowledge pertaining to Christianity. In order to learn the whole story one must also seek knowledge from secular sources. This site aims to provide some of that knowledge.

Truth is priority
To be honest you must make truth your number one priority. Many Christians claim that Jesus is the most important thing in life but Jesus holds no meaning if his stories are not true. Take note that calling Jesus "the Truth" does not make him the same as actual truth, verified or indisputable fact based on all available evidence.
Don't worship claims
When a person worships a claim they are no longer capable of being honest about the claim. Christians may have reason to worship the god Yahweh and his son Jesus but there is never an acceptable reason to worship the claims of their existence or claims about who they were.
Be a skeptic, Not a groupie
One can't be honest when reading the Bible if they do so like an obsessed groupie of Jesus. For example, a 14 year girl who is obsessed with the band The Jonas Brothers cannot give their upcoming CD an honest critique if they have already convinced themselves that "OH MY GOSH THIS IS THE BEST CD EVER!!!!!!" before even hearing it in its entirety. When reading the Bible it is important to do so in an honest and skeptical manner questioning and doubting everything.

Being Honest In 3 Steps
1. Be willing to change your concept of what is true based on new evidence & knowledge.
2. Do not claim something is true if you do not have honest reasons to base the claim on.
3. Stop claiming something is true if the reasons you based your claim on have been proven false.

The absolute lack of historical evidence for Jesus Christ is obviously a major problem for anyone looking for a reason to think he actually existed. To ignore this problem apologists claim that we cannot expect to have any evidence for a person who lived that long ago. That claim is far from true. The 1st century was a well documented time and we have a great deal of historical evidence for figures who actually existed.

Take Julius Caesar for example. We have writings by him, and writings about him by both friends and enemies written during his life time. We have contemporary sculptures and other artwork depicting his image and various artifacts confirming his life and death. We have a known year of birth and a known day of death. We have a rather complete history of Caesar yet no such evidence is found in relation to Jesus Christ, who is said to have lived decades later. We don't even have a known last name for Jesus.
• Shroud of Turin

The Shroud of Turin is a forgery. After independent analysis by the University of Arizona, Oxford, and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology all results date the shroud to be from between 1260 and 1390 CE. Besides, even if it was from the wrappings of a dead body during the 1st century this would still not be evidence that Jesus Christ existed. It would only be evidence that a person died during the 1st century.
• Letters to Abgarus

The "Letters of Abgarus and Jesus" claimed by some apologists to be written by Jesus to the Abgar V are taken as forgeries, not authentic, by historians. The known copies of these letters were written long after the time Jesus supposedly lived. Also the letter forged as Jesus mirrors passages from the Diatessaron (c. 150-160 CE) and not the earlier versions of the gospels.
• The Talmud

Some apologists claim that the Talmud (c. 200-500 CE) is evidence that even non-Christians claimed Jesus existed. Despite claims by Josh McDowell there is NO specific reference to Jesus anywhere in the Talmud and there is no denying that its authors didn't believe in Jesus' messiahship or divinity.
• The Gospels
The Gospels
The gospels are not eyewitness accounts and were written 36-65 years after Jesus' supposed death. None of the writers claim to be eyewitnesses, Matthew is written completely in third person (e.g. Matthew 9:9), and the author of John claims he is not the disciple John (John 21:24). The followers of Jesus were Aramaic speaking peasants from Galilee, lower class men that are not educated and could not have written the gospels in Greek. All the gospels were written anonymously and the names Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were simply applied to the unnamed writings by later readers and named after characters in the stories.
Acts 4:13 even says Peter and John were uneducated and ignorant men.
• Jesus Family Tomb

Some claim a tomb found in Talpiot is the tomb of Jesus and his family because two of the ten ossuaries contain the names "Jesua, son of Joseph" and "Mariamene e Mara." Mary, Joseph, and Jesua were very common names in 1st century Israel so there is nothing significant about the inscriptions. Even most apologists agree that there is no reason to think this tomb is related to Jesus Christ particularly since it was the tomb of a wealthy family that was not from Nazareth.

Some apologists claim that there is no contemporary evidence for Jesus because during that time people only shared stories verbally. It is true, there was an oral tradition among story tellers and the sharing of stories. Historians on the other hand documented events as they occurred. If Jesus was a historical figure and not just a character in a story there would be contemporary writings about him.

New York City’s war on freedom could be adding a new weapon to its arsenal, especially if NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly has his say.

The head of the New York Police Department is working with the Pentagon to secure body scanners to be used throughout the Big Apple.

If Kelly gets his wish, the city will be receiving a whole slew of Terahertz Imagining Detection scanners, a high-tech radiation detector that measures the energy that is emitted from a persons’ body. As CBS News reports, “It measures the energy radiating from a body up to 16 feet away, and can detect anything blocking it, like a gun.”

What it can also do, however, is allow the NYPD to conduct illegal searches by means of scanning anyone walking the streets of New York. Any object on your person could be privy to the eyes of the detector, and any suspicious screens can prompt police officers to search someone on suspicion of having a gun, or anything else under their clothes.

According to Commissioner Kelly, the scanners would only be used in “reasonably suspicious circumstances,” but what constitutes “suspicious” in the eyes of the NYPD could greatly differ from what the 8 million residents of the five boroughs have in mind.

The American Civil Liberties Union has already questioned the NYPD over what they say is an unnecessary precaution that raises more issues than it solves.

“It’s worrisome. It implicates privacy, the right to walk down the street without being subjected to a virtual pat-down by the Police Department when you’re doing nothing wrong,” Donna Lieberman of the NYCLU says to CBS.

The scanners also raise the question of whether such searches would even be legal under the US Constitution. Under the Fourth Amendment, Americans are protected from unreasonable searches and seizures. Does scoping out what’s on someone’s person fall under the same category as a hands-on frisk, though?

To the NYPD, it might not matter. In the first quarter of 2011, more than 161,000 innocent New Yorkers were stopped and interrogated on the streets of the city. Figures released by the NYPD in May of last year revealed that of the over 180,000 stop-and-frisk encounters reported by the police department, 88 percent of them ended in neither an arrest nor a summons, leading many to assume that New York cops are already going above and beyond the law by searching seemingly anyone they chose. Additionally, of those 161,000-plus victims, around 84 percent were either black or Latino. At the time, the ACLU’s Lieberman wrote, “The NYPD is turning black and brown neighborhoods across New York City into Constitution-free zones.”

Given the alarming statistics, many already feel that officers within the ranks of the NYPD are overzealous with their monitoring of New Yorkers, regularly stopping them for unknown suspicions that nearly nine-out-of-ten times prove false. With the installation of the Terahertz Imagining Detection scanners though, those invasive physical searches wouldn’t just be replaced with a touchless, more intrusive monitoring, but will only allow New Yorkers one more reason to fear walking the streets.

“If they search you, you’re not giving consent, so they can do what they want, meaning they can use that as an excuse to search you for other means. I don’t think that’s constitutional at all,” New Yorker Devan Thomas tells CBS.

“There are a lot of cameras already here, so as people walk they’re being filmed. And most of the time they don’t know it,” adds Jennifer Bailly.

A lot is somewhat of an understatement. In Manhattan alone there are over 2,000 surveillance cameras, public and private, aimed at every passerby. That number is the same as the tally of both McDonalds and Starbucks on the island, combined, multiplied by a factor of eight.

CBS News adds that the plan puts the NYPD in direct cooperation with the Department of Defense, who is working on testing the scanners to find a way to bring them to the streets. Such a joint effort opens up questions about other endeavors the Pentagon could have planned out with the NYPD in the past, and certainly doesn’t mark the first time that New York’s boys in blue have worked hand-in-hand with federal agencies. Last year a report surfaced linking the NYPD to the CIA, as documents became available showing a connection between the local police department and government spies installing secret agents into Muslim majority communities in New York.

By using scanners such as the Terahertz Imagining detectors, however, New Yorkers will be forced to endure more than just an unknown number of eyes prying under their clothes. The consequences could be biologically catastrophic, with the scanning technique tied to problems with the human body’s ability to operate. According to MIT’s Technology Review, the THz waves used by the scanners “unzip double-stranded DNA, creating bubbles in the double strand that could significantly interfere with processes such as gene expression and DNA replication.”

The recession ruined Linda Ruggles’ business and she has been
selling plasma twice a week since to make ends meet. The blood bank
couldn’t bail her out from behind bars though, which is where she ended
up after she couldn’t pay a $480 fine.
That fine, say cops in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, came about because Linda Ruggles had a messy yard.

getting by in recent years, Ruggles, 53, has been stockpiling scraps to
pawn off in order to make her bill payments. In her yard rests a pile
of metal that she routinely cashes in to get by. Elsewhere outside her
house is a shack of shingles. Paying to have her roof fixed, often a job
that comes at a cost of several thousand dollars, has been out of the
question. So when cops ticketed her $480 for having a messy yard, Ruggles wasn’t exactly prepared to pay it.

“I told everyone, ‘If I had $480 to pay the fine, I'd fix the roof,’"' she told Charleston, South Carolina ‘s Post and Courier.

For being unable to do so, she was sentenced to serve 10 days in jail
for failing to pay her “clean lot violation.”“I feel like they want to make an example out of me,” Ms Ruggles tells the paper. “This
should be an embarrassment for the town of Mount Pleasant. And it
should be an embarrassment for my neighbors who called the code
enforcement officer, because no one offered to help me – no one.”Six
days into her sentence, however, Ruggles was allowed home only to be
greeted by an array of local residents who read about her plight and
offered to help. That assistance came only after nearly a week in jail
and legal complications which are surely only going to add onto the
troubles (and scrap metal) which has already piled up.“It didn’t change the situation,” she adds. “I
just don’t think being handcuffed, photographed and fingerprinted is
really a behavior-modification tool to keep me from being poor.”On
the bright side, the neighborhood grocery store that Ruggles works
part-time at has allowed her to reclaim her position after her brief
stint behind bars. On the bright side, that is, as long as she can
forget about her last shift behind the register. It was on the job last
month when the cops entered her place of business and hauled her off to
jail.

A man whose bid to become a police officer was rejected after he scored too high on an intelligence test has lost an appeal in his federal lawsuit against the city.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York upheld a lower court’s decision that the city did not discriminate against Robert Jordan because the same standards were applied to everyone who took the test.

“This kind of puts an official face on discrimination in America against people of a certain class,” Jordan said today from his Waterford home. “I maintain you have no more control over your basic intelligence than your eye color or your gender or anything else.”

He said he does not plan to take any further legal action.

Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, took the exam in 1996 and scored 33 points, the equivalent of an IQ of 125. But New London police interviewed only candidates who scored 20 to 27, on the theory that those who scored too high could get bored with police work and leave soon after undergoing costly training.

Most Cops Just Above Normal The average score nationally for police officers is 21 to 22, the equivalent of an IQ of 104, or just a little above average.

Jordan alleged his rejection from the police force was discrimination. He sued the city, saying his civil rights were violated because he was denied equal protection under the law.

But the U.S. District Court found that New London had “shown a rational basis for the policy.” In a ruling dated Aug. 23, the 2nd Circuit agreed. The court said the policy might be unwise but was a rational way to reduce job turnover.

Jordan has worked as a prison guard since he took the test.

As Rep. Stenny Hoyer (D-MD) attempted to call for a vote to extend a payroll tax cut to middle class and working Americans, his Republican colleagues adjourned the House and walked out of the chamber. And if that weren’t odd enough, it got even stranger: As Hoyer railed against them for failing to help working Americans, footage from C-SPAN went silent, then cut away.
And that’s when the audio cut out. Seconds later, footage faded to a shot of the capitol from outside.

Moments later, someone at C-SPAN took to Twitter and explained: “C-SPAN has no control over the U.S. House TV cameras – the Speaker of the House does.”

It’s for reasons just like this, one might infer, that Boehner told C-SPAN back in February it would not be allowed control its own cameras.

1 - THE STRATEGY OF DISTRACTION

The key element of social control is the strategy of distraction that is to divert public attention from important issues and changes decided by political and economic elites, through the technique of flood or flooding continuous distractions and insignificant information. The strategy of distraction is also essential to keep the public interested in the essential knowledge in science, economics, psychology, neurobiology, and cybernetics. "Keep the public's attention distracted away from the real social problems, captivated by issues of no importance. Keep the public busy, busy, busy, no time to think, back to the farm and other animals.

2 - CREATE PROBLEMS, THEN OFFER SOLUTIONS

This method is also called "problem-reaction-solution." This creates a problem, a "situation" due to cause some reaction in public, so that it is the principal measures that want to accept. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Stop spending time with the wrong people. – Life is too short to spend time with people who suck the happiness out of you. If someone wants you in their life, they’ll make room for you. You shouldn’t have to fight for a spot. Never, ever insist yourself to someone who continuously overlooks your worth. And remember, it’s not the people that stand by your side when you’re at your best, but the ones who stand beside you when you’re at your worst that are your true friends.
Stop running from your problems. – Face them head on. No, it won’t be easy. There is no person in the world capable of flawlessly handling every punch thrown at them. We aren’t supposed to be able to instantly solve problems. That’s not how we’re made. In fact, we’re made to get upset, sad, hurt, stumble and fall. Because that’s the whole purpose of living – to face problems, learn, adapt, and solve them over the course of time. This is what ultimately molds us into the person we become.
